Chapter 11 – Importing Your Database

Knowing Your Data Format

Zilron StoreCreator uses it own data format to create your online store files. As you enter your product and service data through our program, it automatically saves the data in a *.zsd format ready for publishing anytime.

However, we have provided some utility programs to allow your to import database in delimited text files generated from the popular database programs, such as Access 7 and Dbase V and later. If you wish to import database from programs other than Access and Dbase, make sure you can export the database to a delimited (") text file, separating each field with:

  • Comma or
  • Tab

Depending on how you set up your database files, some files may not be imported successfully.

We can also import database created by the previous version of ShopCreator (*.t).

You do not need to name your fields/columns the same as our program. The following required fields (you may name them differently in your database) must be available for importing into Zilron StoreCreator:

  • Item ID
  • Item Name
  • Category Name
  • Item Unit price

The following fields, if you have them available, may be imported:

Category Sort ID, Parent Category Name, Item Old Unit Price, Item Description, Icon Image URL, Item Full size Image URL, Item Weight, External URL, Item SortID, New or Old Field, Item Update or Normal Item.

Note we cannot import graphics directly, you will have to insert them using the Zilron StoreCreator program.

Remember: before you can import you must export/save your database as a delimited text file.

At the Store Editor screen

  • Click on the ‘Import Database’ button
  • Select the type of database you wish to import, click ‘Select
  • Locate and Open the delimited text file
  • Check if the first row is the Header row, which will not be imported. Click ‘Ok
  • Select the column corresponding to the appropriate fields and choose ‘Select
  • If you do not have certain fields, then check ‘Ignore this field'
  • Click 'Start' on the final screen to start importing
  • Click 'Ok' to view new database being added

We have added a special utility program for users who use Access or Dbase to change their item prices often.

At the Store Editor screen:

  • Click on the 'Export/Import item price update' button
  • You then export your store data to a text delimited database file which you can import to MS Access or Dbase
  • Change only the 'Item Prices', 'update/new' fields only and nothing else
  • After you finished updating your prices, you export the file to the same text delimited database file
  • Then use this same function to import the database into your store
  • Remember to re-publish your store each time when the prices are changed

We suggest you try with a small sample of database first to ensure this feature works for you before you use any large database.
